what does the second figure in the booty report represent?

In reports of attacks, you get told how much Booty you earned as two figures eg 334/1200. On some of these the two figures are the same (eg 1200/1200) but on others it can be a big difference (eg 250/1200).

What does the second figure represent and what determines how close you get to it?

the first number means the amount of booty you got

the second number means the amount of booty you could've gotten if none of your men died.

Thanks for the quick reply. But, as an example, today I had an attack with no one killed and a booty report saying 296/1228....

The first number is the actual amount of booty you got. The second is the total amount that can be carried by your surviving units. So, your units could carry 1228 resources, but there were only 296 available.

If you're attacking a city for revolt/conquest, it doesn't really matter. If you're farming a city, this info tells you that you've drained the city for the time being.
