The Future of Hero Worlds (not to be confused with Heroes)

Dear players,

Lately, we have thought a lot about the future of Hero Worlds and it’s time to share our conclusions. To be clear, hero worlds and the heroes feature are two different things, we have no hero worlds on our server.

Hero Worlds rose from the idea to create special worlds for experienced players, to be able to offer them some long-term motivation beyond their first world (the Warrior World). We have integrated new, special features in these worlds to make them even more outstanding and appealing: new research options in the academy, a new god (plus new spells and mythical units), extra building levels, etc. Players had to meet certain requirements in order to gain access to these worlds.

Sadly, the Hero Worlds have not been as successful as we had hoped. While the idea behind them was great and the new features have really enhanced and enriched the game, the Hero Worlds simply didn’t meet our expectations regarding the number of active players. Therefore, we will not open any new Hero Worlds, even though we are aware of the fact that players in some markets strongly demand this. Some players would like to see more Hero Worlds with different configurations, whereas others ask for more new worlds because of the old age of some of the existing ones, and still others wish for an improved end game in the Hero Worlds. There were a lot of questions for which we had no answer. Some of our more recent markets like Turkey, Thailand, the United States of America, Argentina or Finland never had Hero Worlds, and still the players knew they exist.

For quite a while now we have discussed the future of the Hero Worlds to find out what would be the best for the players (on both the Hero Worlds and the regular Warrior Worlds), and also what would be the best for us and what would be possible to achieve within our current plans. Should the Hero Worlds stay as they are right now? Should we spend time and resources to make them more attractive and more accessible? Or should we close them down entirely – and what would then happen with the players on these worlds?

While revamping the Hero Worlds (and providing some kind of end game) sounds like a good idea, this would have also cost an unreasonably high amount of resources. To keep them in their current status was also no option, as they don’t perform as we would have liked them to.

So today we have to inform you that we decided to not operate the Hero Worlds any longer. Nevertheless, we want to keep the features of these worlds, on which our teams have worked on so hard several years ago. We think that these features enrich the player experience and that you enjoy them. Therefore, we plan to convert the Hero Worlds into regular Warrior Worlds (including most features of the Hero Worlds) and to integrate those features into the game. All new worlds will have the features of the Hero Worlds when the transition work is done, while the currently running Warrior Worlds will remain unaffected.

Here is a summary of the features and our future plans and goals:

  • We will change the technical architecture and remove the distinction between Warrior and Hero Worlds; henceforth there will be only regular worlds
  • The existing Hero Worlds will become regular Warrior Worlds but will keep the Hero Worlds’ features
  • In the future everyone will be able to sign up on the former Hero Worlds; the award Heroic Tactician is no longer required to gain access
  • We will remove the award Heroic Tactician as it is not needed in the game anymore
  • It will be possible again to invite friends to a Hero World
  • We will implement world wonders in the former Hero Worlds to offer an end game to the players on these worlds
  • When we start a new world in the future, it will have the following features of a Hero World:
    • Additional building levels:
      - Warehouse 30 + 5 = 35
      - Farm 40 + 5 = 45
      - Academy 30 + 6 = 36
      - Temple 25 + 5 = 30
    • New technologies in the academy
    • New goddess Artemis, including:
      - Mythical units: Griffin and Calydonian Boar
    • Spells:
      - Nature’s Gift (the selected city receives 650 stones)
      - Aim of the Huntress (troops that use ranged attacks are 15% stronger; can only be used on an outgoing attack)
      - Illusion (this spell mimics an attack and lets the player see an incoming attack. When the illusionary attack arrives at its destination, a report is created stating it was only an illusion. The spell is used on a city and has the speed of a Light Ship.)
      - Purification (this spell can be used on your own cities as well as incoming or outgoing attacks. The spell removes all negative spells from the city or attack)
  • There is one feature of the Hero Worlds which we will not keep: the advantage to start with three cities. This will be removed completely, because we do not want new players to start with three cities.
  • The winners of a world, who have built the first 4 of 7 world wonders on a world and benefit from an increased production of 50 favor on Hero Worlds, will now receive this bonus on the world where the world wonders have been built.

Today we would like to inform you about a few changes we have made to the transition of Hero Worlds to Warrior Worlds in response to the feedback we have received from our community.

Original proposal: The winners of a world, who have built the first 4 of 7 world wonders on a world and benefit from an increased production of 50 favor on Hero Worlds, will now receive this bonus on the world where the world wonders have been built.

New solution: The winners of a world, who have built the first 4 of 7 world wonders on a world and benefit from an increased production of 50 favor on Hero Worlds, will now receive this bonus on all worlds.
