I'm pretty sure it is written into their contract somewhere that they have to play grepolis to moderate it just most of them use alt-name accounts

They don't get paid, they are volunteers. They have no contracts....Well except for the CoMas anway. By the way some mods on the EN haven't played in quite some time and they still mod, so it doesn't have to be that way.
