Slow & Steady Wins the Race
Volume 1 / Issue 2
Thracian Conquest
One of the largest events Grepolis has ever done. There are 60 different battlegrounds where rewards can be earned. The event will last approximately 13 more days. Making August 22nd the final day for the event.
Rewards vary from resources and spells to troop reinforcements. You can even get Lightships and Biremes as a reward. Now, for you over-achievers, the quest allows you to complete each of the battles more than once.
We asked several different players in Marathon a few questions about the event. Here are their responses:
[spr]What do you like about this event? Conventional materialism has a repulsive familiarity, the shameless drive for profits harbors a sense of "business as usual," which is often comforting to obedient masses and helps me to add fuel to the fires of contempt.
What do you dislike about this event? Designed for the bourgeoisie, it will never emancipate the proletariat.
Have you made it through all 60 battlegrounds? No.
According to Gope[/spr]
[spr]What do you like about this event? The variety of the rewards.
What do you dislike about this event? This requires a lot of gold to complete. This is also weighted for individuals with multiple cities. In order to get your 10 groups of mercenaries per day you definitely need multiple cities. Plus a healer is every 7 hours and the amount of time for Hercules to be ready for the next battle without using gold is close to impossible.
Have you made it through all 60 battlegrounds? I am currently at the halfway mark of 30 battlegrounds.
According to Marcus Gavius Apicius[/spr]
[spr]What do you like about this event? I like that there are nearly unlimited rewards. Once we get near the end it will get easier and easier as long as I can keep getting all of the reinforcements every day.
What do you dislike about this event? It takes a lot of time early on.
Have you made it through all 60 battlegrounds? No and I don't plan to. There isn't any additional reward for beating the map from what I have read. So I plan on constantly repeating select battlefields like the first one with land expansion.
According to Oleg Gusarov[/spr]
[spr]What do you like about this event? It is awesome in that it gives us additional bonus items to grow. The addictive gold bracket is good in that the amounts are a little high to prevent prem n non prem mismatch.
What do you dislike about this event? The only thing that bothers me is the number of rebel troops (may be excessive and requires 2-3 days clearance unless u have gold to refill/heal quickly).
Have you made it through all 60 battlegrounds? My level is about 1/3 into the 3rd Realm.
According to SixTzu[/spr]
“Diplomacy in general does not resolve conflicts. Wars end not due to peace processes, but due to one side giving up.” – Daniel Pipes
Interviews
lex8058 from Berserkers
[spr]1. How did you come up with the name for your alliance?
The name Berserkers kind of just came together, I was looking for something that gave us an identity with the goal of creating a tight unit that played well together
2. Have you played with those in your alliance before? If so, what world(s)?
Our Co-founder and some of our leadership team does play in a second world, US 33-Ithaca
3. Is your alliance at war? If so, with whom? Why are you at war with them?
Full out war, no.
4. What alliance, other than yours, would you say makes it to world wonders?
It is too early in the game to predict. I can say there are some good players here and I am sure whoever makes it to world wonders they will have earned it.
5. If you were not in the alliance you are currently in, what alliance would you have joined? Why?
Not sure I came over with the goal to start an Alliance and have been focused on it. I don't believe I could fit in with any other alliance after this.

Pwilber from Fight Club
[spr]1. How did you come up with the name for your alliance?
The alliance is from Lamda.
2. Have you played with those in your alliance before? If so, what world(s)?
Nope
3. Is your alliance at war? If so, with whom? Why are you at war with them?
Anyone in O53
4. What alliance, other than yours, would you say makes it to world wonders?
Too early to tell, 19 months left
5. If you were not in the alliance you are currently in, what alliance would you have joined? Why?
Numbers and Figures or The Knights Who Say Ni; Both experienced and active.[/spr]
Predator1 from Sails of Death
[spr]1. How did you come up with the name for your alliance?
We originally wanted to be either the Ritchie Boys or Demi Gods to honor our previous names from Epsilon. But after we picked our awesome alliance picture we decided to change it to Sails of Death. We vote on everything in our alliance FYI.
2. Have you played with those in your alliance before? If so, what world(s)?
I played with most of these guys in the world epsilon and a few from a couple of en worlds. Some go by different names and some kept the same names. We have some of the best fighters and leaders from other worlds in this alliance. We have more experience in our leadership than any other alliance.
3. Is your alliance at war? If so, with whom? Why are you at war with them?
We are at war with just about EVERYONE, personally I think that makes the game more fun. The only way to grow is through battle points am I right? To be more specific The Brotherhood, NAF, Berserkers, Blight of the Oblivion, Fluffly Bunnies, Iron Crusaders. We are at war with most of these alliances because we love good competition and battle points.
4. What alliance, other than yours, would you say makes it to world wonders?
Possibly NAF or Knights Who Say Ni or Try Me both are really good fighting alliances and have experience behind them.
5. If you were not in the alliance you are currently in, what alliance would you have joined? Why?
Tough question. I would probably have to pick the knights who say ni or try me. Those two alliances should just merge and put some pressure on the other alliances. The only other alliance I would consider would be NAF mainly because I am pals with Gope and Sunburn. If our two alliances joined forces no one could stop us. That would probably never happen though because I LOVE my battle points to much.
6. Comments:
Shoot me a message anytime and I will be happy to reply to anyone!! :). If you want to know more about me or my alliance I will be happy to do that too. A little disappointed in Berserkers this week. The Ronin is a pretty cool alliance and thought I would give them a shout out.[/spr]

Mad Hatter said #1, who said the other 2 in the first one? The movie is correct.
Michael Corleone said # 1 & 2, who said the 3rd? The movie is correct.

You must answer the entire thing to get the spell.

My thoughts about the Thracian Conquest: It can be a real boon to Pay to Win players, making it difficult for the majority (nice Socialist analogy btw, I saw that!) of the players (who, to keep the faith here, aren't wealthy enough to shell money into one game by the twenties per day and since some are... *Shudders*.

At least the useful stuff is close at hand and repeatable, so I'll be able to at lest save in-game money on mundane things like Swordsmen, and if I'm really lucky, keep up with the Pay-to-winners (so far so good eh?).
