Couldn't find answer anywhere, so wondering what use is a Marketplace above level 1 ?

The marketplace is a very valuable tool that enhances your resource gathering ability. For every level you can trade 500 resources with the farming villages on your island. This allows you to trade with farming villages resources you have an overabundance of, for resources you are lacking. It also allows you to send resources to your other cities on different islands, and to alliance members or friends on other islands.
It also provides you with a resource bonus of a ratio of 1.25, the first time you exchange resources with the target farming village. So for 1000 wood you trade with a farming village that trades wood for silver, you would get get 1250 silver.
I recommend raising your marketplace to level 6 or 7 early on in your city building. Then once you have a second city on another island raise your Marketplace level to 10 or above. You need to have your marketplace at a minimum level of 10 to be able to send resources to other cities off your island.
The Marketplace also allows you to put your resources up in a trade centre so that other players can trade with you. This is extremely handy if you have an abundance of one resource but require another resource.
