How to conquer a 3rd farm?

I know this might seem very silly/stupid.

But i was just wondering how you obtain a 3rd farm.

Do you need enough troops to take it over before the game allows you to take the 3rd farm?

Or if anyone wants to explain in detail?

To conquer your third farm, you must have 10 population worth of troops before you can conquer it. So at this stage it would be 10 swordsmen.

But they use 3 archers to defend, so I would wait until you've researched slingers or hoplites

I disagree, you only lose like 5 swordsmen conquering your 3rd farm with the minimum amount of 10 swords. The increase in resources from that third farm will more than make up for the loss of a few swordsmen.

The wiki has a great table about conquering farms. The simulator will tell you if you have enough to take it. Check it out here.

Be careful in your first 4-5 farming villages to check out their trade exchanges! You don't want 3 villages that all trade the same thing, say silver for wood. It is to your advantage to have a good mix of trade capabilities. Wood for stone, stone for wood, wood for silver, stone for silver etc. Especially if you find yourself with a constant abundance of wood, it is good to have a farming village or 2 that trade wood for silver and or wood for stone...

I TOTALLY agree with Larp. I was very fortunate that I managed to get a good cross section.

To see what each Village trades Click on the big circle in the center of your Island. It will list all of the villages and what what they trade, then just click on the village of your choice and have at it.

Note: You can use this also when you do trades. Get the list, then select the village you wish to trade with.

That's true! I guess the more villages you have the more trade you can do! :)

Of course. I trade a lot with the villages, and earn lots of resources

I would take a level 3 farm over a level 1 farm though if it traded the same resources as one of my other farms though and the level 1 farm didn't.

Absolutely bobdude, so would I seeing as it takes some time as well as other prerequisite buildings to be built and advanced before one can even build the Market Place.
It always pays to conquer the highest level farming villages first as they will yield more resources.

Also it pays to keep in mind, especially on ones first city when they enter a world or colonizing a city, to conquer farming villages that will exchange one resource or another for wood. Wood is the most needed resource in the early stages of building a city from scratch. One's preference should be conquering a farming village that exchanges silver - wood, or stone - wood, all things being equal such as the current level of the farming villages.

Alas..none of the 8 villages on my island accept wood???? I do find that strange, but I am on a -wood island but still, you would think 1 village at least would trade 1 of each resource..a glitch maybe???

that is normal, most islands you have one resource you can not trade or get, only if you are really lucky you have that option ;)

The funny thing for me was after I conquered my third farm, I lost 10 men and got nothing, even though I won. Made no sense to me and am not sure what I do from here. Are you supposed to be able to trade with them after you won, and are you supposed to lose that many soldiers?
